K-Prep is Busy Preparing for Kindergarten & Beyond!
Our K-Prep students are always hard at work learning. Even when it looks like play, we know that there is a lot of learning happening. Ripping, tearing, drawing, painting and other crafts all support the fine motor development needed to write. Literacy lessons, phonics, and rhyming songs are just a few ways that they develop their pre-reading skills. Science and math are explored through a variety of thematic units and hands-on activities.
This month the students enjoyed an exploration into coding thanks to a generous gift from a parent!
Ms. Jordan shared:
"Kprep was gifted this coding mouse for Christmas from one of our families and the kids LOVE IT! With technology everywhere this is an awesome way to introduce the kiddos to the beginnings of computer programming. Research shows that young students' brains are more receptive to computer languages, just like foreign languages.
Teaching coding also improves:
* sequencing skills
* problem-solving
* logical thinking
* cause and effect skills
* computational thinking
* counting
Today I built a maze out of our blocks and the kiddos had to work as a team to program the mouse to go from one end to the next! They did awesome and were so engaged with the learning, even asking to send him through the maze again backwards."
Do you know a young child that would benefit from our Preschool and K-Prep programs? Be sure to share Cornerstone with them. We still have space in our Preschoool classroom for the second half of this school year.
