Grade 5 Visits the Springfield Science Museum
The 5th grade went to the Springfield Science Museum on Thursday, Oct. 13. We started our visit by looking at some of the exhibits in the museum, including animals in their natural habitat. Our first workshop was on Electricity. We witnessed how electrical energy wants to move, even making our hair stand up straight! We had opportunities for hands-on learning with Snap Circuits and static electricity. Our second workshop was on Mixtures and the difference between physical and chemical changes. We had a hands-on experience of changing the pH of a solution. Our third workshop was a planetarium show in the newly renovated Seymour Planetarium. We were able to compare images from the Hubble Telescope with the images from the latest Webb telescope. We learned so many cool things such as:
· A Nebula is a birthing station of stars
· Mars has a volcano the size of three of our Mt. Everest
· Venus is one planet of only two that rotate in the opposite direction than all the other planets
We had a great time and all the Museum Educators were impressed with our student’s intelligent answers!
